Child Porn Case
Wojciech Odrobina pleaded guilty to the possession of images of child pornography

Wojciech Odrobina of Canal Drive, Prospect Woods in Longford, had been identified following an operation conducted by German police in 2013 into a child pornography website operating on the Dark Web.

A search of his home uncovered a number of hard drives and a laptop which were taken to the garda computer crime lab in Dublin for examination.

The Polish national was arrested and made a full admission to gardaí in Longford.

Sentencing him today, Judge John Aylmer said that the most aggravating feature of this case was the extreme nature of the images involved and the very young age of the children being abused in an extreme manner.

The judge accepted that Odrobina had cooperated fully with the Garda investigation and that he had no previous convictions.

He also said that Odrobina has had this case hanging over him since 2013 through no fault of his own, and during that time he had suffered much stress and anxiety.

His life has also altered significantly since then in that he now has a wife and two children and more importantly, the judge said, he had engaged fully with intensive counselling and rehabilitation.

During his rehabilitation, the judge said Odrobina had explored the fact that his interest in these images had emanated from certain issues in his childhood.

An earlier court hearing had been told that Odrobina’s childhood was a nightmare.

Judge Aylmer said that Tusla had been involved in this case and had now closed its file having deemed Odrobina not to be a risk.

He is now in good and steady employment as an architect and is highly regarded and the probation service’s assessment was that he was at a low risk of reoffending.

The judge said he was suspending the three year jail term on a number of conditions including that Odrobina enter into a bond to  keep the peace, will not have unsupervised access to children under 18 apart from his own children, make his information technology equipment available for inspection as requested and that he complies with all the requirements of the Sex Offenders Act 2001.
